Michigan State University (MSU)  is a public university founded in 1955. It is a public land grant research university located in East Lansing, Michigan, US. MSU’s lush 5,300-acre campus is situated on the banks of the Red Cedar River.  It was previously known as the Agriculture College of the State of Michigan until it was renamed Michigan State University in 1964. The university was affiliated with Oakland University until it gained institutional independence in 1970. 

MSU’s ranking is 32 among top public US universities according to the QS World University Rankings for Sustainable Development Goals. The University has also been ranked 1st for nuclear physics graduate program for the past 13 years in the country according to US News & World Report.  Among its notable alumni are Jemele Hill, sportscaster and columnist; James Caan, a Hollywood actor; and Lee Wan-koo, former South Korean prime minister, among others.

Academics

The colleges, divisions, schools, and departments within Michigan State University function as a whole, except for the Michigan State Institution College of Law. MSU’s Board of Trustees voted in 2018 to fully integrate the College of Law into the university. Hence, the Michigan State Institution College of Law is able to maintain its financial independence despite operating within the university’s system.

Most of the university’s schools and departments provide both undergraduate and graduate-level courses. At the graduate level, colleges that offer graduate courses have specifically designed graduate programmes that adhere to the highest global and professional standards in their respective fields.

Michigan State University sponsors programmes for students interested in studying abroad through its partnerships with other universities. The university offers over 275 programmes in over 60 locations across the globe.

Michigan State University’s acceptance rate is 76% overall. Also, over 14% of undergraduate students accepted are first-generation learners in 2021.

Michigan State University Undergraduate application fee is $75. SAT scores of between 1100 and 1300 or an ACT score of between 23 and 29 are required for UG admission to MSU.
