Marquette University

Marquette University (simply known as Marquette) is a private research university in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was founded as the Marquette College–a liberal arts college for men–in 1881 by John Martin Henni,  the first Bishop of the diocese of Milwaukee. The college was named in honour of  Jacques Marquette, a French Jesuit missionary-explorer in the 17th century. After receiving the status of a university in 1907, Marquette became a coeducational institution in 1909. 

While it was instituted as a college that imparted education in the arts, Marquette began expanding its areas of study in the early 1900s. Between 1907 to 1913, disciplines such as business, dentistry, engineering, journalism, law, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy, became part of its curriculum. Owing to financial constraints, the School of Medicine separated from Marquette in 1967 and became the Medical College of Wisconsin–one of the only two public medical schools in the state–in 1970. 

The university’s 93-acre campus is located in Milwaukee’s University Hill neighbourhood. Located at a distance of around one mile from the campus is Lake Michigan, one of the largest lakes in the world. Fees and Scholarships

Admissions at Marquette University
