The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or more commonly referred to as GATE is an exam held by the Indian Institutes of Technology that is attempted by students to gain admissions into Masters programs and for securing jobs in the public sector companies. The GATE aims at understanding your knowledge of various subjects in engineering and science. It has an annual number of approximately 7 lakh student test-takers. The test scores are valid for a period of 3 years.

The last option, and the one that attracts most applicants are job opportunities in public sector companies. Several PSUs like BHEL, GAIL, DRDO, ONGC and NPCIL hire B.Tech Engineering students into specific roles based largely on GATE scores. Since it’s a government job, it offers a lot of job safety and several other formal sector employment advantages. Further, it also pays well, approximately between 7-10 lakhs, and hence attracts a lot of students.
