As we all are aware of the test pattern that GRE test can be either Paper based or Computer adaptive. The GRE score percentile is measured on a 200-990 scale. These are a bit tricky to understand. To get to know about this, you have to recollect the scoring pattern of GRE.
- GRE Verbal Score ranges on a scale of 130-170; with 1-point increment.
- GRE Quantitative Reasoning  Score ranges on a scale of 130-170; with 1-point increment.
- GRE Analytical Writing Score ranges on a scale of 0-6; with 0.5-point increment.
It is natural to calculate the test score, after completing the test. But the GRE leaves you in ambiguity. So how does one ascertain whether his/her GRE score is good or bad? The GRE Score percentile helps you to figure out your ranking (on completion of the test) among other individuals who attempted the test.
What is GRE Score Percentiles?
GRE Score Percentile is used as a comparing tool to check the GRE scores of the aspirants among their community. GRE Score percentile rank gives a measure of the people who scored less than you. For e.g. if you have secured an 85th percentile score, it means you have performed better than 85 percent of all the students who appeared for the test from across the world.

GRE test provides you the option of Score Select which is a means of sending your GRE scores to colleges. The benefit of this is that you can freely select the number of colleges, to which you can send your test score. The test scores can be ALL, ANY or MOST RECENT which you can send to your selected colleges on the test date itself. As the score is valid up-to 5 years, you have the privilege of score selection to send your best score to the universities you prefer.
