Graduate Management Admission Test, more popularly known as GMAT, is a computer-adaptive assessment which is used to measure the quantitative, logical reasoning and reading and writing skills which are essential to seek admission to top-tier B-Schools for business and management courses. The test is conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). The GMAT score is widely accepted by more than 7,000 business and management programs at approximately 2,300 graduate business schools across the globe. So preparing with an edge is an important parameter to score more than an average score, being accepted to the program rather being rejected or on the waitlist.
The uniqueness of GMAT registration is that there is no rush for exam dates, as the test is available throughout the year and taken multiple times in a year. To enroll for GMAT 2020, candidates must log in onto the official website of GMAT. In a year, a candidate can attempt the test up to five times. In case, a candidate wishes to retake the GMAT exam, he/she can reschedule the test after 16 days from the previous attempt.
The cost of the GMAT exam is US$250. In Indian currency, it costs Rs. 18,500 approximately. For the payment process, one can use credit/debit card such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB cards. Additionally, the payment can also be made through Money Orders, Cashier’s Checks and Personal Checks that must be drawn in favor of Pearson VUE GMAT.
Alike other common aptitude tests, GMAT also consist of four sections: Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, and Verbal Ability. Once you complete your unofficial GMAT test your score is displayed on the screen. Within three weeks of the exam, GMAC announces the official final GMAT score.
There are no such GMAT Eligibility Criteria or guidelines set by the GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) for appearing the GMAT exam, but the GMAT aspirants must fulfill some basic criteria to appear for GMAT and to pursue MBA in foreign universities.
The test contains four sections and the contents are mentioned below:
Quantitative Ability
In the Quantitative Reasoning section, you have to answer 31 questions in 62 minutes. This section has two types of multiple-choice questions:
- GMAT Problem-solving – You need to solve a given problem and arrive at one or multiple solutions. Learn more about this section here.
- GMAT Data sufficiency – You need to decide whether the given information is sufficient to arrive at a solution to the problem.
Verbal Ability
This section is 65 minutes long with 36 questions to answer. You will encounter three types of multiple-choice questions here:
- Reading Comprehension – A passage will be given to you on any topic from sociology to astronomy. You need to read through and understand it and answer the questions that follow.
- Critical Reasoning – An argument will be presented to you and you will have to evaluate it. Sometimes, you will be asked to draw conclusions; at other times, you will need to strengthen or weaken the argument.
- Sentence Correction – You don’t have to actually correct the sentences here. You will be given five ways to write a sentence, of which only one will be correct. You need to identify which is the correct one from the lot.
Integrated Reasoning
The Integrated Reasoning section is a 30-minute section on the GMAT that measures your ability to understand and evaluate multiple types of information – graphical, numeric, and verbal. This section has four types of questions:
- Multi-Source Reasoning
- Table Analysis
- Graphics Interpretation
- Two-Part Analysis
Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)
The AWA section comprises an essay writing where you need to read and interpret a given argument. It is also of 30 minutes duration and scored from 0 to 6.
