Located in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe, the University of Amsterdam ranks among the best universities in Europe and worldwide. The roots of this school can be traced back to 1632 when its predecessor, the Athenaeum Illustre, was set up. It’s the third-oldest university in the Netherlands. It was renamed in 1815 as the University of Amsterdam.

Faculty and Courses

UvA is organised into seven faculties: Faculty of Science, Humanities, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Economics and Business, Law, Medicine, and Dentistry. The University provides 62 bachelor’s programmes and about 110 master’s programme options. Other study options include executive education, MBA, exchange programmes, and summer school.

Careers and Placements 

UvA graduates are very desirable by the top employers in the Netherlands and other countries globally. Most of the graduates are employed within one year of their course completion. As per the data provided by Emolument, the average salary range for UvA graduates ranges from $67,000 to $145,000 annually, across fields. The given salary range is one of the highest for employees in the job market. 

Furthermore, as the university has a very high output-oriented research culture, many graduates have engaged in research-based positions at the university itself and various other institutions and laboratories worldwide. At the same time, a large percentage of graduates go-ahead to work with governments and public institutions. 

Admission Requirements 

The average acceptance rate at the university is very low at 4.3%. However, for some programs, the acceptance rate is higher. The general entry requirements are consistent across programs. 

  • Standardised Test Scores: Applicants are required to submit the test scores of standardised exams like GRE or GMAT. 
  • Proof of English Proficiency: All applicants must submit test scores of any English language test as proof of their English proficiency.
  • Academic Transcripts: All students should have an average or higher GPA as per the required standards mentioned by the university. The same should reflect in the student’s academic transcripts.
