A Guide to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) was established in 1991 by the British Hong Kong government. It was Hong Kong’s third institution to be granted the status of a university. The HKUSTcomprises four schools: School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Business and Management, School of Engineering, and School of Science. Additionally, it also has an Interdisciplinary Programs Office, HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced study, and an HKUST Institute for Public Policy. 

The HKUST prides itself on having received 5 State Science and Technology awards in 2011,  12 Franklin Prizes for Excellence in Teaching (School of Business & Management), and 42 Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In addition to these achievements, the university is also ranked 34th by the QS World University rankings, and 9th by the Asian University rankings. 

With over 17,000 students enrolled in programs across its four campuses, the university is a melting-pot of promising minds from across the world. Of these, around 7,000 are international students from over 170 countries. Despite such a large student population, HKUST is rather selective with its applicants and has a low acceptance rate of 35%.

It is important to note that this is not a detailed list of the courses offered by the HKUST as the university offers over 50 majors and 30 minors. However, to be eligible for these programs, you must have a valid GMAT or GRE score. You must also take English proficiency tests such as IELTS or TOEFL.
