Emory University

Emory University, Atlanta, (also known as Emory) is a private research university situated in Atlanta, Georgia. It was established as the Emory College in 1836 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and named after John Emory, a Methodist bishop in the nineteenth century. At the time of its founding, Emory was located in the town of Oxford, which is now the site of its Oxford College. 

Due to the American Civil War in the 1860s, the college remained closed for a better part of the decade. It reopened in 1866. Over the next 50 years, the college continued to expand through the addition of new schools and departments. In 1915, the institution was rechartered as a university and came to be known by its current name.  As the US’ cultural, political, and social landscape evolved, so did  Emory. 

In the  1950s and 1960s, the women’s movement and civil rights movement gathered momentum across the country. Embracing the changes brought about by these movements, Emory opened its doors to female students in 1953; thereby, transforming from an all-male school to a coeducational university.

Courses Offered at Emory University

Emory University offers over 80 majors and 60 minors at the undergraduate level, along with more than 70 master’s, doctoral, and certificate programmes. Admission Requirements

Emory University expects you to have an above-average of at least 3.78 on a scale of 5.  They should also highlight their achievements and interests in their application essays. 

This will demonstrate that you are academically more capable than the ordinary high school student. However, it is challenging to change your GPA in time for college applications if you are currently a junior or senior or have already completed a high-school or undergraduate degree. In this case, you will be required to submit a better score on standardised tests such as the SAT/ACT or GRE/GMAT. That will make up for a GPA that is at or below the 3.78 school average.

The fees at Emory University vary depending on the programme. For instance, the approximate annual cost of attendance for undergraduates is around US$ 78,896 (inclusive of tuition, books and supplies, food, housing, travel & transportation, and direct loan fee, among other expenses). The annual cost of attendance for graduate courses ranges from US$ 48,000 to US$ 90,000. Emory makes several scholarships and other financial assistance available to its students in the form of grants, awards, and work-study programmes.
