Texas Christian University’s (TCU) story began in 1869 when brothers Addison and Randolph Clark, minister-teachers, dreamed of establishing a college that would provide education to both men and women. The Clarks lived in Fort Worth where the cattle business and the pending construction of a new railroad had given rose a rowdy culture in the city. Consequently, they shifted to Thorp Spring, and with only 13 students they founded the AddRan Male and Female College in 1873. The institution was among the first co-ed colleges west of Mississippi. 

After receiving affiliation from the Disciples of Christ–a religious organisation founded in 1832– the college was renamed the AddRan Christian University. In 1895, AddRan shifted to Waco, Texas, where it was, again, renamed Texas Christian University. However, in 1910, a fire outbreak destroyed most of the campus. As a result of the mishap, TCU moved back to Fort Worth the same year. 

Since its relocation, the institution accomplished much. In 1922, TCU was elected to membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and also became a member of the Southwest Athletic Conference. The university has grown and evolved along with the city of Fort Worth, and it is now recognized as one of the best educational institutions in the country. It was ranked 83^rd among the ‘Best National University’ in the US News and World Report 2022. 

Over the years, TCU has nurtured and produced leaders across several fields. Some of its notable alumni are Bob Lloyd Schieffer, American television journalist; Lance Daniel Broadway, American actor and former Major League Baseball pitcher; Shantel VanSanten, American actress and model; Lawrence Joseph Roberds Foyt, former NASCAR and IndyCar Driver; and Gordon Richard England, former US Deputy Secretary of Defense, among others.

Facilities

In 2003, the university opened the TCU Recreation Centre with an intention of keeping the community of this institution healthy and happy. This building covers 202,000 square feet of the campus, comprising 162,000 square feet for recreation and 40,000 square feet for academics. The Recreation Centre is open for membership to all registered TCU students, teachers, staff, alumni, and community members. It consists of facilities such as

In the fall of 2021, around 10,222 undergraduate and 1,716 graduate students were enrolled in Texas Christian University. The acceptance rate of Texas Christian University is currently 48%.
